Meet your Muse

South West band Muse are already a name on the worldwide stage and now they want to help another local band get their first steps on the big musical ladder.

Chart topping rockers Muse are hoping to give one lucky South West act a chance to support the band onstage in their sell out August gig at the Eden Project.

The show on the 22 August, a part of the annual Eden Sessions, will be in front of a crowd of thousands.

And you could be included in the line up...

The opportunity to appear alongside Muse is in partnership with The Helen Foundation, a new arts charity, based in the band's home town of Teignmouth in Devon.

The chance to appear at the Eden gig is open to any band in Cornwall or Devon who are currently unsigned and who are all under the age of 25.

The Helen Foundation is a living tribute to Helen Kirk, a Teignmouth woman who was devoted to an acting career. She tragically died in a car crash on Boxing Day 2005, aged 24.

The Foundation was set up in her name to support the arts in the area, and any young people who have aspirations towards acting, music or any other artistic career and are showing particular talent.

The connection to Muse is a very personal one.

"Muse are the patrons of the Helen Foundation because they knew her from an early age," said one of the organisations founders, Annie Kirk, Helens mother.

"She was a friend of all three right from when she was a little girl through school and beyond."

It was this link that prompted Muse to make their offer, an idea also based on their own experiences of gaining a foothold in the music business.

"The band came up the idea of raising awareness and raising more funding with a regular Muse gig," said Annie.

"They also believe they had their big chance when they supported the band Gene and now it's their chance to pass it on."

Although Muse are best known for their 'apocalyptic' style of rock, all styles of music will be considered in the competition.

"It'll be whatever style of music the chosen band plays," said Annie.

"It'll be judged by Muse's management and two members of the Foundation and could be any type of act."

If you think you have what it takes to play on the same stage as Muse, post a history, full description, recent photograph, and contact details (phone, email and postal address) of your group to:
